There are days when the medical routine, surgeries, consultations, and emotional weight of each case can make everything feel rushed. But there are also moments that stop time, that come without warning and that deeply remind you why you chose this profession. This video is one of those moments.
As a surgical oncologist, I’ve learned that I don’t just work with diagnostics, but with human beings who trust me at one of the most vulnerable times in their lives. Each patient teaches me something new: resilience, courage, hope and, many times, a different way of looking at life.
In this meeting, a person took the time to thank me for my dedication, for my dedication and for the accompaniment during his process. And although you don’t work to receive recognition, when it comes… touches the soul. I felt a mixture of emotion, gratitude, and humility that I can only describe as a reminder of the true purpose of my work.
Medicine is much more than technique: it is humanity
What few people see is that behind every diagnosis there are sleepless nights, difficult decisions, difficult conversations and a human connection that is not forgotten. Sometimes I am the one who sustains; Other times, it’s my patients who teach me to be stronger.
That gratitude that appears in the video is not only for me. It represents all health professionals who put their hearts into what they do, who accompany, who listen, who console and who, although no one says so, carry with them the story of each person they serve.
Prevention and accompaniment continue to be my mission
In a world where life runs so fast, remembering the importance of prevention and early detection is critical. But even more important is to be present: to guide, support and walk alongside the patient. That is the engine that moves me every day.
Every gesture of gratitude I receive confirms that the effort is worth it, that the sacrifices make sense, and that, although the path of oncology is demanding, it is also full of deeply human moments.
